It is with great pride that we announce today that The British International School of New York has become fully accredited by the International Baccalaureate Organisation and as an IB World School is authorized to offer the IB Primary Years Programme.
“I was thrilled with the reaction of the visiting team to the IB Programme here at BIS-NY. I have always believed fully in the quality of what we offer, but it is certainly nice to hear from external moderation that our standards as high as we had hoped. BIS-NY thrives on teamwork and our achievements so far are a credit to the dedication of everyone involved, and to our ongoing commitment to continued development as a school that provides the best quality of education to the children in our care. “
Mr. McElhone, Head of School
The 20 month authorization process included a comprehensive presentation of children’s learning as well as evidence of planning, preparation and resources to offer the PYP effectively to the standards required by the IBO.
Our initial application was followed by consultation visit to assess the school’s preparedness for the authorization visit. A delegation appointed by the IB visited the school in April 2009, to validate that the school is genuinely committed to the pursuit of excellence in international education.
During this visit the IBO visiting team evaluated the quality of the school's leadership and the faculty’s ability to offer the program; they verified that the school's planning has been both systematic and comprehensive.
We commend our faculty and our Senior Management Team for their part in this impressive achievement and bring special attention to Mrs. Shehla Ghouse, Deputy Head and IB Coordinator for all her additional work in preparation and collation of our application.
“It has been gratifying to see teachers so enthused by the rigour and energy this framework brings to their teaching and the engagement of children who want to learn, question, solve problems and become caring, principled and knowledgeable thinkers and inquirers.”
Mrs. Ghouse, IB Coordinator and Deputy Head
The British International School of New York offers a comprehensive and challenging curriculum encompassing the content and assessment criteria of the National Curriculum of England and Wales (National Curriculum) taught through the internationally focused, inquiry driven, concept based, transdisciplinary approach of the IB PYP for children from Nursery to 5th Grade. In 6th Grade (Year 7) BIS-NY reverts to the National Curriculum of England and Wales.
This combination of the discipline of the National Curriculum and the transdisciplinary IB PYP Programme has already resulted in placement of students from BIS-NY at some of the leading schools locally, in the UK and beyond, ensuring our students are well positioned to advance and succeed, in meeting the challenges of a highly competitive and fast-changing global economy.
